The office of Attorney General Mark R. Herring is premiering a documentary it has produced, “Heroin, The Hardest Hit,” 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, at the Library of Virginia, 800 E. Broad St., in Downtown.

The film also will be shown in other localities around the state through Tuesday, Dec. 15.

Doors open at 6 p.m. for the Richmond showing that is free and open to the public, according to a release from the attorney general’s office.

The film is in response to a heroin and prescription drug epidemic that has claimed more lives in Virginia in 2014 than car crashes, according to the release.

The documentary will feature a Virginia Beach mother who lost her daughter to a heroin overdose. It also will include Virginians in substance abuse recovery and law enforcement and health care officials.

The film was directed by Emmy Award-winning director and Richmond native Jesse Vaughan from Virginia State University’s Advance Creative Services Group. It also features narration by Emmy Award-winning journalist Ed Gordon.

The video will be available to view without charge on the Atttorney General’s Office website at www.oag.state.va.us beginning Dec. 2. DVD copies and screenings with the attorney general’s staff may be requested by emailing HardestHit@oaf.state.va.us.
