A Richmond area nonprofit is seeking to assist parents to obtain state scholarships to enroll children with dyslexia, autism or other learning challenges in accredited private schools.

The nonprofit is called GRASP, or Greater Aspirations Scholarship Program. Founded in 1983, GRASP participates in the state Education Improvement Scholarship, which was set up to assist low- to moderate-income families, according to Miriam Tice, coordinator of GRASP’s scholarship program.

Ms. Tice said a Richmond family can qualify for a scholarship of up to $5,115 for a student with an Individualized Education Program to attend a specialty school.
