The New Virginia Majority will host a community cookout this weekend for people who have been incarcerated and their family and friends, it has been announced.

The event is scheduled for noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at Abner Clay Park, Leigh Street and Brook Road in Jackson Ward.

Along with food, beverages and children’s activities, the program will include information on what the group is doing to increase job opportunities and improve conditions for ex-offenders.

New Virginia Majority was organized to build and use the voting power in working-class communities of color on behalf of racial and economic justice.
