Enrollment is now open for free Saturday chess classes for Richmond youths ages 13 to 16, it has been announced.

The nonprofit Bright Minds RVAChess Program is offering the program for the second year and will begin classes on Saturday, Oct. 22.

The classes will continue through Jan. 21, 2023, and wrap up with a tournament on Saturday, Jan. 28, spokeswoman Bernice Travers stated.

The instructors will include chess aficionados Fleming Samuels, Dr. Theodore Andrews and Frank Green, Ms. Travers stated, and added the program is supported by the Richmond Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, the Richmond Crusade for Voters, the Richmond Branch NAACP and individual donors.
