Richmond School Board member Jeff M. Bourne is no longer playing coy about running for the Richmond House of Delegates seat that Jennifer L. McClellan is about to vacate.

Just a day after she won election to the state Senate, Mr. Bourne, who now represents the 3rd District on the School Board, announced he would seek the 71st House District seat, getting a jump on others who might be interested in running in the special election that could take place in March or April.

“On the School Board, I’ve worked to strengthen our schools and expand opportunities for Richmond’s kids,” Mr. Bourne stated in his announcement Wednesday. “As delegate, I want to do so much more. I’ll fight for new jobs, common sense gun safety measures, equal pay for equal work, criminal justice reform and, of course, stronger schools.”

The 40-year-old deputy attorney general for the state said he would give up his elective and government posts if he wins the special election.
