The Boston Marathon, as usual, had an East African flavor.

Kenyan Sisay Lemma of Ethiopia and Kenyan Hellen Obiri won the men’s and women’s races, respectively, on April 15.

Lemma covered the 26.2-mile distance in 2:06:17 while Obiri broke the tape in 2:22.37.

Finishing second among men was Ethiopian Mohamed Esa while Kenyan Catherine Ndereba was the women’s runner-up.

Every men’s winner since 2019 has been from East Africa while all the women’s champions since 2018 have hailed from East Africa.
