Re “From R&B to gospel, Barky’s has changed with the times,” April 23-25 edition:
I want to express my heartfelt appreciation to the Free Press for the article on Barksdale Haggins and Barky’s Spiritual Store.
He has been a fixture in Downtown Richmond and the Jackson Ward and Carver communities for decades. He has always had a deep affection for the city and the customers who frequent his store, and this still rings true today.
There is one thing that you might need to be made aware of and that is his name. His last name is actually Haggins and not Higgins as reported. It’s an honest mistake and any number of people make the same mistake all the time.
In closing, I stand in agreement that your paper is the heartbeat of the Richmond metropolitan area. You shed light on the critical subjects and issues that affect so many whose voices would not be heard.
Keep up the good work and thanks again.
