Va. senator to launch re-election campaign

U.S. Sen. Mark R. Warner will launch his campaign for re-election next week with five days of events culminating in Richmond.
The 65-year-old Democrat, who is expected to face limited Republican opposition, will kick off his campaign Tuesday, March 17, in Abingdon in Southwest Virginia and wrap up with an event in Richmond’s Jackson Ward at noon Saturday, March 21, at the Hippodrome Theater, 528 N. 2nd St.
After serving as Virginia’s governor from 2002 to 2006, Sen. Warner was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 2008. The Harvard Law School graduate and businessman is seeking election to his third six-year term.
Rated as a centrist and advocate for bipartisan solutions, he has served on the banking, finance and intelligence committees and has been a champion for health care.
