The Players Choir, a group composed of current and former NFL players, is scheduled to perform at the 30th Anniversary Essence Festival of Culture on Sunday, July 7.

Formed in 2008, the choir includes NFL athletes, some of whom are Super Bowl champions, Pro Bowl selections, and Hall of Fame inductees. The Players Choir, developed by Super Bowl Gospel Celebration founder and executive producer Melanie Few, has performed on television specials, at events and charitable functions.

Bryan Scott, a former player for the New Orleans Saints and Buffalo Bills, is among the choir members.

“We couldn’t be more excited to showcase our talent and passion for music in the vibrant city of New Orleans,” Scott said.

The Essence Festival appearance follows the choir’s recent performances at the Super Bowl Soulful Celebration and the NFL Draft in Detroit. At the festival, the group will perform on the main stage and make appearances at the Febreze booth in the Convention Center.

The choir is also slated to perform at a National Urban League-sponsored event and the Urban Legends “Women in Harmony” Awards Luncheon during the festival weekend.

Myron Butler, a Grammy-winning producer, and Demarcus Williams serve as the choir’s musical directors. The former NFL players who make up the choir include: Cameron Newton, Atlanta Falcons; Michael Gaines, Carolina Panthers; Bryan Scott, Atlanta Falcons; Stephen Pierce, Cleveland Browns; Tully Banta-Cain, New England Patriots; Tommie Harris, Chicago Bears; Jamon Brown, Los Angeles Rams; Trey Williams, USFL (previously Cowboys, Colts); Nathan Palmer, 49ers, Broncos; KeShun Freeman, New Orleans Saints; Prince Amukamara, NY Giants; Dwayne Wright, Buffalo Bills; Willie Yarbary, LA Chargers; Bryant McKinnie, Vikings, Ravens; and Olrick Johnson, New England Patriots.
