Chesterfield County will induct 10 local sports legends into its inaugural Sports Hall of Fame this week, honoring athletes and coaches who have made significant contributions to the area’s rich athletic history. The ceremony is set for 6 p.m. Thursday at the Perkinson Center for the Arts and Education in Chester.

The inaugural class includes:

Dave Amsler, credited with bringing soccer to the region and founding the Richmond Strikers and FC Richmond Soccer Club.

James Farrior, Matoaca High School alumnus and two-time Super Bowl champion with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Johnny Grubb, Meadowbrook High School graduate and member of the 1984 World Series champion Detroit Tigers.

Denny Hamlin, Manchester High School alumnus and decorated NASCAR Cup Series driver.

Ken Oxendine, Thomas Dale High School graduate who played for Virginia Tech and the Atlanta Falcons.

Bobby Wadkins, Meadowbrook High School alumnus with a successful career on the PGA Tour and Champions Tour.

Lanny Wadkins, Meadowbrook High School graduate and 21-time PGA Tour winner, including the 1977 PGA Championship.

Lacey Waldrop, Thomas Dale High School graduate and two-time ACC Pitcher of the Year at Florida State.

Kellie Wells-Brinkley, James River High School alumna and 2012 Olympic bronze medalist in the 100-meter hurdles.

Vic Williams, local coaching legend with 213 wins and a state championship at Thomas Dale High School.

The Hall of Fame, presented by Virginia Credit Union, will display inductees’ names at the River City Sportsplex in Midlothian.

Not all nominees are expected to attend.
