Chaunté Lowe, four-time U.S. Olympian and American high jump record holder, will be the keynote speaker at the 31st annual Women and Wellness Luncheon hosted by VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Lowe, who earned a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, drew national attention after her 2019 diagnosis with triple-negative breast cancer, an aggressive form of the disease. She continued training through her treatment and went on to compete in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

Her platform emphasizes resilience, a “champion mindset” and the importance of health self-advocacy.

“The best gift I can give with my life is helping others find beauty in their own lives,” Lowe says. “I am excited to share my story and inspire hope with the attendees of the Women and Wellness Luncheon.”

The annual event has raised more than $5 million over three decades to support cancer research and innovation at VCU Massey. Each February, Women and Wellness brings together women to hear personal stories of courage and empowerment from prominent speakers, including Joan London, Meg Ryan, Elizabeth Gilbert and Suleika Jaouad.

“We are thrilled to have Chaunté Lowe as our keynote speaker,” says Women and Wellness Luncheon chair Farrah Massenburg. “Her story includes the critical theme of self-advocacy in women’s health, and her experience of training for the Olympics while undergoing chemotherapy is a truly powerful testament.”

The luncheon will be held at The Jefferson Hotel on Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 11 a.m. Tickets are available now.
