Virginia Union earns record five CIAA academic awards

Virginia Union University has earned a record five Dr. Freddie Vaughan Awards for academic achievement during the 2024-25 school year, the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association announced Monday.
The Panthers received theawards for having the highest team grade point averages in men’s cross-country, football, men’s basketball, golf and tennis — the most ever received by VUU in a single academic year.
“Virginia Union University has a long and rich history of academic excellence,” said VUU head golf coach and assistant athletic director for student-athlete academic support. “Our student-athletes continue to excel not only in their sports but also in the classroom.”
The awards are presented annually to CIAA programs that demonstrate the highest academic achievement across the conference.
