Construction crews are building a new stadium field at The Diamonds at Ironbridge baseball and softball complex in Harry G. Daniel Park, completing a project that began in 2023.

The stadium will feature 272 covered seats, a press box and a 30,000-square-foot concrete plaza connecting it to a building with restrooms, storage and umpire changing rooms. The plaza will provide gathering spaces and parking for food trucks.

The work represents the final phase of the extensive renovation of six existing fields at Daniel Park into a tournament-quality complex.

The new stadium field will enable The Diamonds at Ironbridge to host district, state and regional championships for local leagues while positioning Chesterfield County to pursue national competitions, including the 2027 USA Softball National Championship and the Special Olympics National Championship. The facility also serves as a hub for high-level fastpitch softball and youth baseball in Chesterfield.

The county is simultaneously renovating two other baseball and softball complexes. Seven hybrid fields with turf infields and grass outfields are nearing completion at Rockwood Park, scheduled to open for the spring 2026 season. The hybrid design will increase playability and reduce weather-related cancellations, making Rockwood the first county athletic facility with such surfaces.

Work is also underway on four fields at Horner Park using the same hybrid approach.

“Having infrastructure capable of hosting national tournaments allows our local athletes to challenge themselves against top competition without their families incurring the costs of out-of-town travel,” said J.C. Poma, director of sports, visitation and entertainment for the county.

Chesterfield has hosted visitors for youth soccer, lacrosse and field hockey tournaments for years at facilities including the 16-field River City Sportsplex. Enhancements to that county-owned facility continue, with plans for a spray park, destination playground, tween and teen game space, accessible climbing structure, walking and exercise trails, fitness zone and picnic areas when it opens this summer.
