Cityscape //Work has begun on the long awaited facelift to Kanawha Plaza, a once popular jazz and R&B concert site that sits above the Downtown Expressway between 8th, 9th, Canal and Byrd streets. City Hall has awarded a $2.94 million contract to Ashland-based Southwood Building Systems, which competed against four other companies to renovate the city park. More trees and green space are promised, along with improved space for community programs and events, when the work is completed later this year.
