Lyla Hopkins-Hawkins, 6, stands at the foot of the statue of noted Richmond businesswoman and activist Maggie L. Walker at Broad and Adams streets in Downtown during last Saturday’s commemoration of Mrs. Walker’s 155th birthday. The young- ster attended the event with her grandfather, J. Maurice Hopkins, a 1965 graduate of Maggie L. Walker High School who helped push the effort to erect the statue.
