Stith, left. Ms. Alcindor, White House correspondent for PBS NewsHour, was the commencement speaker during ceremonies at which nearly 500 students were awarded undergraduate or advanced degrees. Members of the 50th reunion Class of 1969 were recognized during the ceremony. The Class of 1969 was the first to graduate from Norfolk State College, which became an independent institution of higher education on Feb. 1, 1969.
