Firefighters, first responders and community members bow their heads in a moment of silence during the opening ceremony Saturday, Sept. 6 at
Richmond Raceway after completing the Metro Richmond 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb. The event honors first responders who died on Sept. 11, 2001,
and those who later died from related health complications. Participants climbed 2,200 steps, representing the 110 stories of the World Trade Center,or walked a 5K around the track. For more photos, see A3.
