Cityscape-Slices of life and scenes in Richmond-“Cardinal Points,” a 7-foot steel sculpture by Richmond artist Noah Scalin, is now on display near the end of South Addison Street in the Fan, where the Downtown Expressway cut through historic neighborhoods. The work depicts Virginia’s state bird and reflects on the lasting impact of redlining and highway construction on Richmond communities. The sculpture was commissioned by Markham Planning. William Martin remembered at open house-The Valentine Museum in Richmond hosted an open house memorial for William Martin on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026. The museum’s longtime director, and Richmond historian died in December at age 71 after being struck by a car while crossing East Broad Street. Attendees wrote notes sharing their memories of Martin and posted them on a wall for others to read. Lunar New Year celebrated at VMFA-The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts celebrated the Lunar New Year on Saturday, Feb. 7 with the museum’s annual ChinaFest celebration. The “Year of the Fire Horse” event featured art activities, dance and music performances, kung fu and calligraphy demonstrations.
