Mural at MLK Middle highlights restorative justice-The restorative justice team at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School unveils the Uhuru (Freedom) mural on Jan. 7. The mural, designed by Alfonso Perez and Khalid Thompson, features historical and cultural figures intended to reflect themes of ancestral intelligence and educational excellence. The unveiling also honored the life and work of Solomon W. Jefferson, a leader in restorative justice efforts in Richmond Public Schools. Jefferson died in November. Cityscape Slices of life and scenes in Richmond-Visitors take in sweeping views from Richmond’s newly reopened City Hall Observation Deck on Friday. The 18th-floor overlook, shuttered since the start of the pandemic in 2020, officially welcomed back the public following Mayor Danny Avula’s announcement Thursday.
