The Richmond Flying Squirrels mascot, Nutzy, works the crowd during last Saturday’s doubleheader at The Diamond. The Flying Squirrels opened the season last Thursday with a sold out crowd of 9,845 fans. Last Friday’s game was canceled because of the weather, resulting in the doubleheader on Saturday.

Taire Hubbard leads Huguenot High School’s Junior ROTC team in a practice Saturday before the Richmond team faced judges in the U.S. Army Junior ROTC Drill Championship. Location: Greater Richmond Convention Center in Downtown. The team that Col. Taylor instructs was one of 103 high school units that came from as far away as Hawaii and Oregon to take part in the daylong event in Richmond. More than 2,500 teens showcased their military abilities at the event. Richmond beat out six other cities to host the championship for the first time.
