The event included the renaming of the McGlothlin Medical Education Center auditorium in honor of Tucker and the unveiling of a mural displayed outside the renamed Bruce Oliver Tucker Auditorium. The mural was designed by Virginia Commonwealth University students Haley Salon, Yara Jeff and Zoe Jeweler, who collaborated with Tucker’s family and Richmond artist Hamilton Glass.

The performance interprets Kristine Mays’ “Rich Soil” exhibition, currently on view. The performance, free to attend, begins 2 p.m. Saturday, March 8, and features African dance, music and oral traditions, amplifying the themes of reckoning and ancestral recognition in Mays’ work.
