A day of free screenings for head, neck and mouth cancer will be offered to the public next weekend through VCU Dental Care.

The screenings will be offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at the Dental Care center, 520 N. 12th St., in observance of National Oral Cancer Awareness Month.

According to Virginia Commonwealth University, oral cancer affects approximately 42,000 Americans each year and is responsible for 8,000 deaths annually. Screenings are considered the best way to detect such cancers early, when they are the most treatable.
