Alicia Rasin said Tuesday she is back after six months out of the limelight.
Richmond’s volunteer “ambassador of compassion” said she plans to be more visible after spending six months “getting some rest.”
Ms. Rasin, 62, founder of Citizens Against Crime, has long been a highly visible comforter of families grieving the loss of a relative to homicide. She has provided everything from emotional support to arranging funerals to seeking financial assistance for the bereaved.
In an telephone interview, the 62-year-old Church Hill resident said she stopped going out in recent months as a health measure.
“But I never stopped what I had been doing. Families still have come to my home for help at all hours. I just wasn’t making public appearances on my doctor’s orders, and some people thought I had left because they didn’t see me. It wasn’t so. This is my calling.”
Now that she feels a bit more rested, she said she plans to be more of a presence.
