The pandemic has allowed him to spend time with his family. That has been a silver lining, he says. “My family and I were very busy people before this pandemic. Now, I get to spend quality time with them that I was not able to do during a regular day. Another silver lining for me is my appreciation for the variety of activities I was able to participate in this year like Senior Day, indoor track and spending time with my friends. I’m looking forward to going to college and embarking on new challenges.”

Daughter of Gwendolyn Robinson. She thanks her mother for her success. “My mother encouraged me to work hard and to be kind to others,” she said. How has life changed during the pandemic? “It makes me view the world differently,” she said. “It shows how even in light of something that affects everyone, there’s still hope that we can make it out together. We’re learning more about each other. I’ve learned so much more about my family during this than before when I had a busy schedule.”

Ashley Williams, with her dog, Sebastian, a pit bull-spaniel mix, on the front porch of her East End home, is happy to stay in during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her family, she says, has experienced health scares in recent weeks, both related and unrelated to the coronavirus. “I have always valued family and friends, yet the communication with loved ones is even more cherished than before,” said the founder of BareSOUL Yoga. The experience also has shifted how she connects with people and the community — through online offerings and resources. The silver lining? “I am able to appreciate, explore and enjoy my home.”

Reginald “Bubba” Williams III, and his sister, Denise Williams, have shared a home in Henrico County for the past six years. “We do well together, but we are both missing our activity,” Ms. Williams said. “I am totally missing getting out.” But she knows staying in will help stop the transmission of the coronavirus, protecting her, her brother and others. She said she used to go out a lot. But now, “No malls. No stores.” And lately, she said, “My sleep habits aren’t good.”

Relatives, friends and supporters mourning lost loved ones who were victims of violence at- tended the Dec. 12 ceremony held in the lobby of Richmond City Hall. Participants wrote the names of their loved ones on red ribbons that were placed around the statue, “River of Tears,” that stands situated in City Hall. Mr. Burnley’s daughter was murdered by her boyfriend in No- vember 2007, and he has annually attended the memorial started by Linda Jordan to help family members with their grief and loss through the holidays.

Delegate Delores L. McQuinn, standing, and her 6-year-old grand-daughter Storie Znassi deliver fruit baskets and body lotion to residents of the Darby House senior apartment community in Henrico County last Friday for “I Am My Brother and Sister’s Keeper Day.” The special statewide designation for the day after Thanksgiving was approved by the General Assembly in 2018 by a resolution introduced by Delegate McQuinn. It asks Virginians to perform a random act of kindness on the Friday after the holiday. On this second annual “I Am My Brother and Sister’s Keeper Day,” Delegate McQuinn challenged people to have seven others join in doing something kind to make a difference in the lives of others. She and her granddaughter visit here with, from left, Ethel Davis, 81, Doris Laidler, 71, and Mary Berryman, 88. Other participants out doing kind acts for others on the special day included members of Delegate McQuinn’s legislative staff and members of the Richmond police and fire departments.

Brother’s and sister’s keepers: Nearly two dozen people attend the “I Am My Brother’s and Sister’s Keeper” Day program last Friday at the Reconciliation Statue at 15th and Main streets by Shockoe Bottom. Organized by Richmond Delegate Delores L. McQuinn, the event sought healing, cooperation, love, peace and an end to violence and racism in the community.
