The Rev. Cheryl Cook-Posley will be the guest preacher at the Women’s Day service Sunday, April 26, at Second Baptist Church in the West End, the church has announced.

The service is 10 a.m. at the church at 1400 Idlewood Ave. led by the Rev. James Henry Harris.

Rev. Cook-Posley is the founder of Hamlets of Hope Ministries, an Ashburn, Va.-based nonprofit for ministerial practitioners and faith communities focused on transformational ministry.

She is the daughter of the Rev. Wallace J. Cook, pastor emeritus at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Jackson Ward, and the Rev. Martha Charles Cook, former minister of church growth and membership development at Ebenezer.

Dr. Cook-Posley received her master’s of divinity from Howard University, where she was awarded the Vernon Johns Preaching Prize. The award is bestowed upon the student whose preaching exemplifies the passion of the late Rev. Johns and his commitment to social justice.

She earned a doctorate in ministry from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington.
