![A giant symbol of the times now adorns the facade of the Science Museum of Virginia as it prepares to reopen to the public 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5. The museum, at 2500 W. Broad St. near Downtown, has been closed to visitors for months because of the pandemic. The giant mask is a reminder that visitors will need to wear one to get in. The museum is one of many cultural spaces that are putting new requirements in place in moving from virtual events to actually welcoming visitors. In addition to the mask requirement, the museum will have visitors buy timed admission tickets in advance. It also will limit the number of people entering during operating hours. The museum currently is hosting the state Senate during the General Assembly’s special session.](https://epmgaa.media.clients.ellingtoncms.com/img/photos/2020/09/03/SCIENCE_MUSEUM_MASK_090120_RHB1_r190x220.jpg?15134d8ecf80f15357c5f07aa65289834e904796)

![This new billboard on Oliver Hill Way near the Richmond Justice Center spells out key demands protesters in the city have been pressing for weeks. So far, Richmond Commonwealth’s Attorney Colette W. McEachin, who works several blocks west in the John Marshall Courts Building, has resisted the pressure to drop the criminal charges against the more than 300 demonstrators who have been arrested since late May. Mrs. McEachin has promised only that her office would review each case and that those arrested between May 30 and June 1 solely for violating a city curfew order would not face jail time. According to the Virginia Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, an undetermined number of people arrested during demonstrations are being held in jail without bond and might not have their preliminary hearings for another month or two. The billboard is the work of a coalition called DTCRVA, which stands for Drop the Charges RVA.](https://epmgaa.media.clients.ellingtoncms.com/img/photos/2020/07/30/Cityscape_COLLETE_MCEACHIN_BILLBOARD_072820_RHB1_r190x220.jpg?15134d8ecf80f15357c5f07aa65289834e904796)

![Work is underway on the $1.2 million renovation of Virginia Union University’s renamed Wil- lie Lanier Field at Hovey Stadium. Mr. Lanier, a former All-Star and Pro Bowl player with the Kansas City Chiefs from 1967 to 1977, played on Hovey Field when he was a student nearly 60 years ago at Richmond’s Maggie L. Walker High School next door. He has played a vital role in the project to resurface the field from grass to FieldTurf. When the VUU Panthers football team kicks off its 2020 season home opener on Oct. 3 against Shaw University, the new field will be a point of pride for the team and will put VUU on the same level as universities around the nation, officials stated. “That field shows something,” Mr. Lanier stated. “It shows the ability of what it is to provide for those young individuals who can take confidence and pride in where they play and how they are able to perform.” Squares of the old grass field, which has been in place since 1907, are being sold online to help fund the project.
